When my son Daniel and I first decided to publish Alien Worlds - a set of rules we had invented a year or two previously - I suggested to Daniel that we should donate any money we made from them to charity. He agreed, and decided on a charity for children with cancer. I did a bit of googling and CLIC Sargent, a charity I was familiar with, albeit from a merciful distance, popped up and so our decision was made. Early versions of the Alien Worlds ebook stated that we would give all proceeds from that title to the charity and even though this was removed from subseqent editions, it is something we have stuck by all the same. At the end off the UK tax year, profits on Alien Worlds (royalties received less the cost of the cover art) were a modest GBP 13.29
A payment for this amount is already on its way to CLIC Sargent as I write this and although it's not much, it's something and I like to think that every little bit helps. For the current year, we're going to continue to with the charity support but we're going to change things up a bit. After all, we have Laserblade under our belts now and we should release at least one more ebook this year. For the 2015-16 year, we will contribute 20% of our annual profits to charity. Once we've decided on a charity, we'll announce it either here on on our blog.
Thanks for reading and happy gaming!
